Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official said the incident left him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
